Tennis Footwork was the key to my longevity - Andre Agassi

Tennis is a sport played by many people, most of whom want to get better. With so many possible areas of tennis training and tennis fitness to focus on here are 4 that are essential yet don't rely on a racket and baskets of tennis balls to work on.

1. Speed

It goes without saying that having more speed around the court will be an advantage to your game. Every good tennis player needs speed even more than they need strength, don't forget the whole point of the game is to hit the ball over the net and onto the other side of the court and that the ball you are hitting is constantly on the move.

2. Getting to shots

It doesn't matter how seemingly average your opponents shot is, you still have to get to it and be there in time before you even think about playing your shot.

3. Recovering from shots

Getting to and playing a tennis shot is only half the equation (even though many people/coaches seem to emphasize this part of the process).

There is absolutely no point being able to hit a shot if you are unable to recover to a position where you are able to hit another and maybe even several others after that.

Unless you intend to hit winners on every first shot you hit (let me know when you are able to do it!!) you will have to be prepared to hit several shots in succession and that means recovering everytime you hit one shot in preparation for the next.

Good Tennis footwork can help!

4. Balance

There is one overiding quality that is needed for all of the above and everything you do on the tennis court and that is BALANCE.

It doesn't matter whether you are moving to or from a ball or actually at the ball getting ready to hit it, if you are not balanced the fact is that none of the other parts of your game will work!

You will NOT be able to move to and get into a good position to hit the ball! You will NOT hit a great shot! You will NOT be able to recover in case you need to hit another!

Good Tennis footwork can help!

So there you have it, 4 facets of your game that can cause almost shocking improvements.

But the really good news is that by working on JUST 1 area can help you improve your speed, balance and your tennis movement to and from shots.

Having better footwork means you move faster as well as better on the court and that without doubt equals IMPROVED TENNIS!
