Tennis Strokes?

Let's be honest, one of the main ways to make sure you become a good tennis player is to spend some good quality time on the tennis court.

You don't just need to spend a long time on the tennis court (remember I said "quality time") you just need to spend time on your tennis strokes making sure that you are practising with good solid mechanics because it is so easy to pick up bad habits and "groove" those in, which will only lead to trouble when you try to undo them.

So how do you make sure that you are playing the shots correctly?

Well the obvious methods are -

Tennis Coaching

Information (Books etc - including the internet).

Watching the game (on T.V. of just other good players).

What's really interesting though is the popular misconception that you have to be an adult to play an "adult game" and have "adult shots".

Nothing could be further from the truth.

How many times have you seen footage of the World's great players playing great tennis when they were small?

With the correct mechanics in place you can form the basis of your game at a very young age and because it is motor skills we are talking about, it will stay with you pretty much unchanged forever - so put that effort in early in your playing career (regardless of your age) and you will be set up.

Just to prove this point here is a video of one of my 9-year old players, playing a point in a practise match - believe me, his game will get significantly better but will not change dramatically in the next 10-15 years!

He's pretty good though!!
